Plague or Warning?

Riding out the Wuhan Corona Virus pandemic is somewhat like riding out a hurricane. In spite of the danger, it is BORING! Staying at home is the pits, however, it protects and others that might be exposed if we happen to be carriers of the disease. So be of good cheer, you are helping by your lack of activity.

There are a couple of thoughts I would like to share. The first of which is the lack of information about the recovery rate of infected persons. We’ve all seen the infection numbers and the numbers of deceased for Corona, but why aren’t we shown more information concerning the actual numbers of people who recover from the disease. Perhaps the news outlets don’t consider that number to be sensational enough. It reminds me of the “Yellow Dog Press” we learned about in our history classes in high school. That was a long time ago for me. Be that as it may, during the administration of Teddy Rosevelt the press only printed the sensational and outrageous stories that scared people. I believe we have returned to that time with our current media outlets.

Also, social media is posting a story about a Harvard professor, a specialist in bacteriology and virology, who was paid by the Chinese to set up a research lab in Wuhan. Reportedly, he was paid large amounts of money and had two Chinese nationals working as his lab assistants. I haven’t seen any of this from recognized news services so the story’s veracity is open to debate. I will say this, during forty-two years as a pharmacist I have seen a lot of adulterated and miracle cure drugs come from China. (Does anyone remember ‘black pearls’ during the late 1970s?) My opinion of Chinese products is highly suspicious, to say the least.

I believe one of the bleakest things I’ve seen is the hoarding by so many people. Jesus addressed this very thing:

2 TIMOTHY 3:3-5 NIV

3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

That action is certainly being a lover of self. Does that mean we are in the last days? Well we are certainly approaching them at the very least.

God warned the Jews to return to Him by using plagues, corruption, and conquering armies to get their attention and I believe that is what He is doing to the entire earth. Wealth and fame haven’t helped protect any of us. Just look around at the number of rich and famous people that have been infected and some have died. Warnings like this fall upon the righteous and unrighteous alike. Being a believer in Jesus Christ will not keep me from being infected or possibly becoming a death statistic, but if so I know Jesus has me covered for my eternal future. “To live is Christ, to die is gain,” as the apostle Paul wrote.

Don’t get caught up in the conspiracy theories, turn back to the maker and creator of all things, Jesus Christ. And ask Him to take care of your here and now as well as your eternal future.

Romans 10:9-13 NIV

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and is justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

I just don’t know how much more simple it can be said.

God Bless and Keep You All.
