Author Michael Furlonger of ChristianWritersBookstore (https://christianwritersbookstore.com/michael-furlonger/) decided to share on the circumstances surrounding John the Baptist in this week’s Spirit Of The Prophet video.
With a reading from Matthew 11:7-11;
Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written:
“‘I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way before you.’[c]
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist…
While there is much more to be discussed on the teachings of John the Baptist, Michael looks at the life of the man. Primarily the life that opposes modern day “prophets” who preach the prosperity message. John wasn’t a rich man, he ate locust and honey.
Let’s hold onto the hope that God hasn’t given up on us because we struggle.
This series alone should be well considered. Whether in a personal time of reflection and devotion, or used to reach others with the hope we have in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
