Author Michael Furlonger of ChristianWritersBookstore (https://christianwritersbookstore.com/michael-furlonger/) discussing discusses The Spirit Of The Prophets: Abel Amongst Them.
While we often like to consider prophets as being these great, well known, men and women of God, I was surprised to see that Abel was Amongst Them. In Luke 11:50-51, Jesus said,
“Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.”
(As well as in Matthew 23:3.)
All we know about Abel is in Genesis 4, where his brother, Cain, was jealous that he brought a better offering to God. And, because of his jealousy, Cain killed his brother Abel.
And in Hebrews 11:4,
By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
Let’s be mindful that the standard of God is far more different than our standard.
This series alone should be well considered. Whether in a personal time of reflection and devotion, or used to reach others with the hope we have in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
