Are You Ready For Something New? by Joe Gelak
I used to work with a bunch of military guys. One of their favorite sayings was, “Hurry up and wait!” It can seem a bit like that with God. He may have something new and amazing for us on our spiritual journey. But when? He will do it in his time, but only if we are ready.
It is all too easy to just exist from day to day. Maybe spending some time in prayer, reading scripture, listening to worship music, helping others. All good activities, but God wants to bring us into a much greater spiritual state of being.
Let us not be content with the same old same old. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, there is much farther to go. Vast, beautiful lands awaiting you. We know this because the Lord has given us some amazingly powerful promises. Incredibly, he wants to:
- Share his divine nature with us (2 Peter 1:4)
- Raise and seat us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6)
- Give us the glorious riches in Christ (Ephesians 3:8)
- Unite us with Christ as one (Philippians 2:1, Romans 6:5, 1 Corinthians 6:17)
How Can We Make Ourselves Ready For These Marvelous Promises To Be Fulfilled In Us?
We should be like the farmer, waiting and watching patiently and expectantly for the rain clouds (James 5:7), and the watchman, seeking for the first light of day (Psalm 130:6). In your quiet moments, fix your eyes on Christ, open yourself to him, ask and seek his transforming power through his Spirit. Then embrace his power when you feel it working in your inner being. Receiving it with joy and giving him continuous thanks.
Let us remind ourselves that we have far to go, that our dear Lord is able to lead and even carry us, and he wants to help us. As Robert Frost tells us, we have “miles to go before I sleep.”Try Audible Premium Plus and Get Up to Two Free Audiobooks
