On Sunday, I had the opportunity to speak to my small group from church. I took the opportunity to share on the Wholeness of God. The Wholeness of God on how the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three persons but are united as one. I will share the sermon in a future blog post, but I thought I could get your opinion now.
Growing up, the God of the Old Testament (the Father) was seen as this big judgemental meanie. But through scripture, I’ve seen beauty in the Law. While many may see it as legalistic, I see it as a beautiful love letter from a Father.
So, if you could do me a favour, fill out the survey below and tell me which Old Testament laws you agree with and which you don’t. I believe that even a lot of non-Christians will see things on God’s side.
Mark those that you agree with.
The Survey Says
If you took this survey, I thank you. I want to let you know that I didn’t share every law that God gave. Despite your religion or upbringing, I do believe that we can agree on a number of these.
God gave many laws. One list of laws was on proper sacrifices as people were known to sacrifice children to death through fire to appease their gods. These laws were called ceremonial laws. God also gave laws that we call “civil” laws. These are the laws on certain clothing and food, for that specific people.
God also gave us moral laws. These moral laws flow through every culture and people group. The Ten Commandments and varying laws that flow from that.
When I led the service on Sunday, I was trying to connect the goodness of God to the mercy of Jesus Christ. In fact, when Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, you may not know, but he was preaching law. He said that if you think of a person lustfully, you’re guilty of sexual sins. And if you say that you hate someone, you’re guilty of murder.
In God’s infinite mercy, knowing that we all sin, he sent his Son. He sent Jesus Christ to die so that we can be reunited with the Father. So let no religious leader keep you from seeking after God.
