In this third episode, Michael opens up with The Spirit Of The Prophets and considering the prophet, Elijah. The Spirit Of The Prophets will be a mini-series in the Revive Us Again series.
In this episode, Michael discusses the attitude of Elijah. In 1 Kings 18:16-40, he has humiliates the ‘prophets’ of Baal and Asherah. This would also bring the Israelites to proclaim, “The LORD- he is God!” (1 Kings 18:39). After this proclamation, Elijah ordered that the ‘prophets’ be taken to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered.
The focus on this video though is the sudden change of heart in Elijah. He had just turned the whole nation of Israel back to God and slaughtered the false prophets of Baal, but we find him praying for death. But in 1 Kings 19, he is running away because Queen Jezebel, who would have dinner with the false prophets of Baal and Asherah, threatened to kill him.
He (Elijah) came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:4 NIV)
Read 1 Kings 19:1-18 to see how God pulled Elijah through. But, consider, if God can still use Elijah, He can still use you.
This series alone should be well considered. Whether in a personal time of reflection and devotion, or used to reach others with the hope we have in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
