Blinded So That I Could See by Robert M. Hinnen

I thought I was doing what was right
Persecuting all who proclaimed his name
My stony heart dark as the night
Seeking my idea of justice and fame

But on the long road to Damascus
A heavenly light drove me to my knees
And I heard the voice of righteousness
Saying, “Why are you persecuting me?”

Trembling, I replied, who are you, Lord?
“I am Jesus, whom you persecute”
For I did not know the Living Word
Blinded to his ever loving pursuit

Until the Holy Spirit opened my eyes
To repent of every sinful thing I had done
When I felt the healing touch of Ananias
The scales fell so that I could follow the Son

No longer of Tarsus, I am Paul of Christ Jesus
Baptized by God’s mercy and grace
Forever changed on the road to Damascus
For I have beheld my Savior’s face!

“Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Acts 9:3-5 ESV
